JACKELINE ROSE NEW BOOK: On Violence and On Violence Against Women

Jacqueline Rose is internationally known for her writing on feminism, psychoanalysis, literature and the politics and ideology of Israel-Palestine.  Her books include Sexuality in the Field of Vision (1986, Verso Radical Thinkers, 2006), The Haunting of Sylvia Plath (1991), States of Fantasy (1996), The Question of Zion (2005), The Last Resistance (2007, Verso Radical Thinkers, 2016), Proust Among the Nations – from Dreyfus to the Middle East (2012), Women in Dark Times (2014), Mothers – an essay on love and cruelty (2018), and the novel Albertine (2001).

Here Harvard Book Store's virtual event series welcomes world-renowned feminist scholar and cultural critic JACQUELINE ROSE—author of The Haunting of Sylvia Plath and Women in Dark Times—for a discussion of her latest book, On Violence and On Violence Against Women

 

She is joined in conversation by writer DAYNA TORTORICI, co-editor-in-chief. 

Conversations with Jacqueline Rose came out in 2010, and The Jacqueline Rose Reader in 2011. States of Fantasy and The Last Resistance have formed the basis of musical compositions by the acclaimed young American composer, Mohammed Fairouz. 


A regular writer for The London Review of Books, she wrote and presented the 2002 Channel 4 TV 

ON VIOLENCE IN WAR and society at large, and violence on women. The work by Jaqueline Rose to update the syllabus on political theory, a master piece founded at #Harvard #Bookstore. I strongly recommend this @jackelinerose open dialogue on her #book about #violence in #society and violence on #women. Lets take an example, of little significance. Spanish women soccer team Barcelona had a kind of violent situación yesterday, when men-only directives occupied the stage of honor and left the winning team in a lower position. I was a soccer player myself in my teens. Wouldn´t you find the situation awkward, somehow difficult to grasp?Documentary, Dangerous Liaison – Israel and the United States. She is a co-founder of Independent Jewish Voices in the UK, and a Fellow of the British Academy. 

Before arriving at Birkbeck, she taught at the University of Sussex, at Queen Mary University of London, and in Autumn 2014, as Diane Middlebrook/Carl Djerassi Professor of Gender Studies in Cambridge.
